Background. Inverted follicular keratosis (IFK) is a benign cutaneous neoplasia in which a possible viral origin has been suggested.
Methods. The presence of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) have been searched by Immunocytochemical and Polymerase chain reaction techniques in a series of IFK.
Results. All the examined cases of IFK showed no evidence of HPV antigen.
Conclusions. According of this study IFK is not a HPV related lesion but an adnexal tumor without a casual relationship with infection.
