PDF

The chapter referring to the “milk-crust”, taken from “Scientia medicinalis practica” and “Chirurgia” by Guglielmo da Saliceto (Piacenza, 1210 - Verona, 1277), is transcribed. He was a celebrated personality in the Bologna University, both in the anatomical and surgical field, where he was surrounded by famous students such as Guido Lanfranchi. This work was translated into early Venetian language by an unknown author, between the end of the XVth and the beginning of the XVIth century; it consists of five tomes. The original of the first one is presented. Finally, the exceptional interest of the description, which is the most ancient in the literature, both in Latin and Vulgar language, is underlined.
