Association of tacalcitol and PUVA in the teratment of psoriasis

Background. At present there are only few data on the efficacy and tolerability of the association PUVA plus tacalcitol ointment in the treatment of psoriasis. In this study this association has been compared with the association PUVA plus Calcipotriol and PUVA alone.
Methods. In two groups of patients two plaques of similar size and severity in symmetrical body sites have been selected in every patient. In the first group of 16 patients (group A) the efficacy of the association PUVA plus tacalcitol ointment applied once a day versus PUVA alone has been evaluated. In the second group of 24 patients (group B) a comparison has been made of the association PUVA plus tacalcitol ointment applied once a day versus the association PUVA plus calcipotriol ointment applied twice a day.
Results and conclusions. The results obtained after 8-weeks treatment show that the association PUVA plus tacalcitol is more efficacious than PUVA alone in the treatment of psoriatic plaques, while the lesions treated once daily with tacalcitol and PUVA and those treated twice a day with calcipotriol ointment plus PUVA improved similarly.
