Background. Endochondral pseudocyst of the auricle is a rare spontaneous swelling of its upper anterior aspect, resulting from the accumulation of viscous fluid. The etiology of the disease is unknown, but repeated light traumas may have had a pathogenetic value in some patients.
Methods. Two male patients (22- and 32-years-old) who presented with auricular endochondral pseudocysts are described, the first of which developed contemporary and bilateral auricular swelling.
Conclusions. Simple incision and drainage gave very poor results in one patient who experienced a sudden relapse of the swelling within a few hours despite a compressive dressing. Surgical treatment: incision of the cartilage, draining of the fluid, removal by curetting of the interior surface of both faces of the cartilage and charging gave good esthetical results.
