Aim. We describe the use of Ophthalmic BD EdgeAhead TM Stiletto/ microvitreoretinal (MVR) knife for the posterior cervical discectomy. This tool can be used as an alternative to Diamond knife for posterior cervical discectomy and myelotomy.
Methods. BD EdgeAhead TM Stiletto / MVR knife, 0.90 mm (20G) was used to perform posterior cervical discectomy in a 38 yr-old female presenting to us with brachialgia.
Results. Postoperatively, the brachialgia completely resolved and the patient was discharged home the following day with no complications.
Conclusion. We conclude to say that BD EdgeAhead TM Stiletto/ MVR knife can be used for different spinal microsurgical procedures. These disposable knives can be a safe and cheaper alternative to Diamond knife for posterior cervical discectomy and myelotomy.
