Secondary hyperparathyroidism complicated with bone hungry syndrome at the early postoperative period

A case of hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic renal failure is reported where excision of enlarged PGs was complicated postoperatively with bone hungry syndrome manifested as severe transient hypocalcaemia. Bone hungry syndrome is an inevitable complication of near total parathyroidectmy for long standing secondary hyperparathyroidism and calcium replacement for few weeks will alleviate the symptoms.
