PDF

Proliferative myositis (PM) is a rare benign, inflammatory, intramuscular, self-limiting pseudotumor, that may be misdiagnosed as a sarcoma. We describe a case of PM of the sternocleidomastoid muscle in a 72-year-old femal patient, and discuss the importance of a correct differential diagnosis of the lesion, to avoid mutilating surgery.
