Aim. The Authors analyse the influence of primary lesions, histopathology, metastases and patient’s age on thyroid surgery for malignances.
Methods. 1462 patients were operated in 15 years, hystopatology claimed for malignancy in 132 (9.0%) patients.
Results. Total excision revealed to be the “gold standard” for thyroid malignances; functional neck dissection (mono- or bilateral, in one or two steps) was performed with good outcome.
Conclusion. An early diagnosis and an early and radical surgery are the base of successfull treatment of thyroid malignances.
