We described our methods for checking aortic valve competence by direct vision using venting procedures below the subaortic chamber routinely since 2001. This technique is simple to detect the aortic insufficiency by visualizing the coaptation of the leaflets directly during repair, and may avoid the reinstitution cardiopulmonary bypass in our past experience on 10 patients. We recommend this simple and effective technique.
