Pleural tent: indication for surgical treatment of giant bullae of lung

Politi L., Scanagatta P., Salani A., Crisci C.

PDF

Authors present their experience of surgical correction with stapler of giant bullae and coverage with a pleural tent after mobilization from the cupula, in order to reduce air leaking and intracavitary complications. 14 patients have successfully undergone this kind of surgery from 1988 to 2003, with a total number of 16 surgical procedures, as 2 patients had bilateral bullae. Such procedures had good clinical and functional results compared to predictive pre-operative standards, and all drainage tubes have been removed by the 7th day.
