Umbilical endometriosis. Description of 3 cases and diagnostic and therapeutic observations

Lattuneddu A., Ercolani G., Orlandi V., Saragoni L., Garcea D.

Personal experience in the treatment of 3 cases of umbilical endometriosis is described, and the difficulty of a preoperative diagnosis is discussed. Among the 3 young women, only 1 patient underwent 2 cesarean sections. Another patient was treated with estro-progestinic therapy for policystic ovary. Indication to surgery was due to the presence of an umbilical mass and abdominal pain. Symptoms disappeared completely after surgical resection of the umbilical mass. No postoperative complications appeared in the early or late follow-up. The possible pathogenetics mechanisms and the best diagnostic approach are discussed.
