Spigelian hernias

Di Vita G., Sciumè C., Lauria A., Lauria Lauria G.

Six cases of Spigelian hernia observed in 5 patients from January 1st to June 30th, 1998 are presented. The age of patients varied from 45 to 82 years old with an average of 65 years, 3 were women and 2 were men, in 4 of them the right side was interested and in 2 patients the left side. TAC was carried out in one case in whom tumefaction was not observed and and it clearly showed the defect of the wall. The way of aggression in 4 cases was with a transversal incision above the tumefaction, and in two cases a medial preperitoneal way was performed. This method is preferable in cases of non palpable hernia and in the presence of concomitant hernias of the same side or opposite abdominal wall.
