Arthrosis of the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint is a painful and often disabling condition that interferes with running or even walking due to problems with footwear. Implantation of a CoCr alloy hemiprosthesis to replace the base of the phalanx has been in use since 1952. The aim of this study was to review the results after implantation of the Toefit-Plus ™ prosthesis. Materials and methods. From a series of 17 hemiarthroplasties in 16 patients operated for hallux rigidus (1 case of bilateral hallux rigidus) between October 2001 and February 2005, 14 implants in 13 patients (3 implants had been removed: 1 at our hospital and 2 at other facilities) were assessed according to the modified American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scale. The follow-up results (range, 48-87 months) in 14 implants are presented.
