The authors describe the approach to the disgnatic patient, which is based on a diagnostic and clinical procedure. The aesthetic of the face and the function, through the correction of deformities induced by malocclusion are the primary goal of the surgical-orthodontic treatment. The whole orthodontic and surgical correction of the malocclusion is scheduled at the beginning of the orthodontic treatment and, once again, before the surgery, in order to define the movements of the bone fragments. The authors show step by step the graphic procedure of setting the final surgical trace, the way to use it for setting up the plaster models, and the construction of the surgical splints, both the intermediate and the final one.
