The management of chronic skin ulcers places considerable direct and indirect costs on the National Healthcare System. In Italy, skin ulcers affect some 2 million persons, indirectly involving family members as well. In those receiving home care, the economic and medical burden is even more relevant and is estimated to grow as the population ages. Chronic skin ulcers in this patient group can often take up to 12 months to heal. This study evaluates the effectiveness of FREMS combined with traditional medications in the treatment of chronic skin ulcers.
